"Baby Busch & The Attack Of The Busch Army"
Over the last few weeks as Kyle Busch was tearing thru all three of NASCAR's major series, I continually received questions from fans regarding the top drivers in the sport, and the always intriguing, "who would you start a team with?" question. WOW, did I piss some people off.
If any of you think Kyle Busch doesn't have any fans, which I hear constantly, "Oh, he wins a lot, but he doesn't have any fans...everyone hates him!", you are sadly mistaken. In fact, I may have heard from every one of them over the past week. And trust me, none of it was pretty. It was the attack of the Busch Army!
When asked the question, "Thunder, what four drivers would you start a Sprint Cup team with today, and if you could only pick one driver who would it be?", I answered with my brain instead of my heart. You see, my heart says I want the fastest bad-ass stock car driver with a take no prisoners get the FUCK out of my way attitude. A driver who will not be denied victory, a driver who will risk his life and everyone else's to get to victory lane, a driver who slides his car sideways and wave's at you as he passes you at 200 mph. But not a whiner...aka Kyle Busch.
But, my brain tells me to choose a driver who has 'many' of those qualities...just not all of them. I'm not a big fan of cry-baby's, drivers who sell-out their own crews, drivers who stomp their feet and hustle off pit road when they don't win, and gigantic sun glasses that look like snow boarding goggles.
So, my ideal 'four-car' team for 2011 and the next four-years (assuming all drivers sign 5-year deals) would look like this: Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, and Denny Hamlin.
Johnson is a lock with his vanilla image, professional attitude, sponsorability (is that a word?), and four-straight championships. He is still in his prime and is hungry for more championships. Chad Knaus is an amazing crew chief and a brilliant engineer, but he receives way too much credit for the success of the #48 team...Johnson can flat out drive a stock car.
Edwards is a tough choice to say the least. I obviously believe he is one of the most talented drivers in the sport or he wouldn't have made my Top-4, but man oh man can he be an asshole. They call that wrestler on TNA 'Mr. Anderson' an asshole, but he aint got nothing on Cuzin Carl. Now, I should clarify my self here...Carl is an asshole at the racetrack, but away from the track he's a great guy. He has hung out with my son at the quarter midget track, signed crap for the kids, taken pictures, etc. But, he certainly isn't winning any friends in the garage area...and not that he cares too.
Kyle Busch, or as I have been calling him for at least five years..."Baby Busch" is a lock for anyones Top-4. Kurt is "Big Busch" and Kyle is "Baby Busch", it makes perfect sense right? And WOW does Kyle's name fit him! He wins more than anyone, is breaking records it seems weekly, has the HOTTEST girlfriend with the greatest rack on pit road, and yet he whines like a little baby whenever a microphone is stuck in front of that ugly mug (try getting a tan dude, it 'might' help a little). I can't even begin to tell you how much this kid makes my blood boil when he throws his own crew under the bus, blames his crew chief for pit strategy, storms off pit road, or hides behind his snow boarding goggles.
Let me be clear when I say this, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE in any of NASCAR's three series has as much pure and genuine talent in a race car as Kyle Busch. Robby Gordon Motorsports driver Kevin Conway told me that Kyle Busch waved to him as he passed Kevin on the outside at 'Dega while driving 200 mph. Right now, he is the best there is and I don't think anyone can argue that. He wins in everything he drives...and God help those dirt trackers that push him around at The Prelude if he decides to start dirt tracking, he'll win it that every year too! Yeah I said it, every year! Sorry 'Smoke', if 'Baby Busch' gets involved even at a modest level in dirt racing, you are all in serious trouble.
My fourth driver is also the driver I would choose if I could only sign one. Denny Hamlin. Hamlin is Busch's closest competitor in terms of pure talent, but he doesn't come with all of the baggage Busch brings along. Oh, Denny has had his moments there is no denying that. But, nothing like 'Baby Busch'. Hamlin has grown up a lot over the past two-seasons under the tutelage of Joe and J.D. Gibbs. He says the right things after races, he acts like a pro, he is great with the sponsors (not that Kyle isn't, Kyle is one of the best at plugging sponsors), and he wins. One thing I would love to see is Hamlin running the same Nationwide and Truck schedule that 'Baby Busch' runs...that would be fun!
So there you have it fans, I love the way 'Baby Busch' drives but I respect Denny a little more as an individual at this point. Kyle will continue to win races, so will Denny, and Kyle will continue to aggravate the shit out of me. I gotta tell you, sometimes I seriously want to just shake the piss out of him and smack him in the face a few times. But, then I remember what I was like at 22 or 23 years of age....what an ASSHOLE.
Enough of that crap. I'm stoked for a rocking Labor Day weekend. My co-host on the 'TWISTED METAL' with Captain Thunder Show, 'The BIG Man' will be visiting Thunder Ranch this weekend. Plenty of booze, beach, four-wheeling, pool, maybe shoot some guns and light off some fireworks! Y'all be cool and have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day holiday.

| NASCAR PENALIZES EDWARDS - PROBATION FOR KESELOWSKI |
|
|
| |
NASCAR has penalized the #60 team and the #22 driver for rule violations committed during last Saturday's NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Gateway International Raceway. The penalties come as a result of violating Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing/ aggressive driving) of the 2010 NASCAR Rule Book. Carl Edwards, driver of the #60, has been penalized with the loss of 60 NASCAR Nationwide Series championship driver points, fined $25,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31. Car owner Jack Roush has been penalized with the loss of 60 series championship owner points. Brad Keselowski, driver of the #22, has been placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31. - nascar
ROUSH: "We have received notification of NASCAR's penalties against Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski and Roush Fenway Racing related to Saturday night's race at Gateway International Raceway," said Roush Fenway president Geoff Smith. "As with all NASCAR actions of this nature, we will internally evaluate the penalties, and the underlying explanations, prior to making any decision about next steps. We look forward to watching Carl and Brad as they continue to compete on a weekly basis for the championship in the Nationwide Series." - rfr pr
KESELOWSKI: "The incident at the end of Saturday night's race at Gateway was unfortunate not just for Penske Racing and the #22 Discount Tire Dodge team, but for all of the teams that were caught up in the aftermath. There was unnecessary damage done to a lot of race cars as a result of the incident, including one of our best cars. We support NASCAR's decision and we look forward to putting this behind us. Our focus continues to be working hard to get Discount Tire, Ruby Tuesday, Dodge, Mr. Penske and Penske Racing a Championship this season." penske racing pr

| NASCAR FINALLY RELEASES LIST OF BANNED SUBSTANCES |
|
|
| |
CONCORD, N.C. -- NASCAR has added a list of banned substances for its drug testing policy to the 2010 rulebook that all teams have been provided, the body's vice president of racing operations said on Thursday.
"What we've done is taken the list of substances we provided to owners at the beginning of last year," Steve O'Donnell said. "We've included that in the rulebook. We've also, for a clarity standpoint, included our entire policy in the rulebook for 2010 as well.
"We're going to continue to vigorously and aggressively defend ourselves on behalf of the teams and facts that are out there believing we have the toughest policy in sports. If we can make that better we will, and I believe we've done that this year," O'Donnell said.
The list was added a year after the drug-related suspension of Sprint Cup driver Jeremy Mayfield. At the time, several drug-testing experts questioned the validity of the policy because it lacked a list.
Penn State professor Charles Yesalis, who has written several books on performance enhancing drugs and testified before Congress on legislation related to the control of anabolic steroids and human growth hormone abuse, called the policy without a list "loosey-goosey."
"Red flags in my mind come up all over the place," he told ESPN.com last year. "There has to be a hard and fast list. No ifs, ands or buts. Without it, they can give somebody a pass on something. Nobody does it that way."
Attorneys representing Mayfield, who was suspended after testing positive for methamphetamine, also challenged the validity of the policy without a list.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston strongly disagreed.
"The policy remains the same," he said Thursday. "The misuse or abuse of any drug is a violation. That remains today. That's still the policy. What we sent to the teams was a sample of what those substances are." - by David Newton - www.espn.com

| BAKER CURB HIRES PARROTT TO WORK WITH BIFFLE |
|
|
| |
NASHVILLE, Tenn., January 11, 2010 – Baker Curb Racing announced today that they have reached an agreement with Brad Parrott to be the crew chief on the team’s No. 27 Red Man Moist Snuff Ford Fusion which will be driven by Greg Biffle in the NASCAR Nationwide Series this season. The announcement reunites Parrott and Biffle, who in 2004 as a driver/crew chief tandem finished third in the Nationwide Series point standings, collecting five wins, two poles and 21 top-10 finishes in 34 races. Parrot brings over twenty years of NASCAR experience to Baker Curb Racing having worked for many of the premiere organizations in the industry including Penske Racing, Robert Yates Racing, Roush Fenway Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing. In addition to his previous experience as Biffle’s Nationwide crew chief, the Charlotte, N.C. native has called the shots for prominent drivers Dale Jarrett, Jeff Burton, Juan Pablo Montoya and Carl Edwards. He has 18 career NNS victories atop the pit box and also recorded one win as a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series crew chief. QUOTES: Matt Crews, Baker Curb Racing President on the addition of Brad Parrott “Brad is one of the most well respected crew chiefs in the business, brings with him a wealth of knowledge and has had proven success being Greg Biffle’s crew chief. We feel like he gives us a great chance to run competitive right out of the gate and to win a race. His dad was the crew chief in 1984 when Mike Curb was the owner on Richard Petty’s car so the Parrott name already has a history with Baker Curb Racing.†Brad Parrott on joining Baker Curb Racing “I’m really excited about joining Baker Curb Racing. My family has a long history with both Gary Baker and Mike Curb and I know they both have a great passion for racing and know what it takes to be successful. They have a tremendous facility in Nashville, a hard-working staff and all the resources needed to be successful in the Nationwide Series. Brad Parrott on working with Greg Biffle “Greg is not only a top-class driver; he’s a great person as well. He and I had a great relationship in 2004 and translated that into success on the track. We won races, captured poles and were in the mix for a championship. I’m looking forward to continuing that success this season and seeing the No. 27 Red Man Ford Fusion at the front of the pack! Greg Biffle on working with Brad Parrott “We worked well together in 2004 and won five races. Since that time he has gained a lot of valuable experience with different drivers and teams so I’m looking forward to working with him again. I think that Brad will be a tremendous asset to Baker Curb in terms of how the team is structured and what it takes to get the cars running faster.†- bcr pr

| WALLACE FINED & PLACED ON PROBATION |
|
|
| |
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR announced Wednesday that Steve Wallace, driver of the No. 66 Chevrolet in the Nationwide Series, has been fined and penalized due to rule violations that occurred immediately following this past weekend's event at Memphis Motorsports Park.
Wallace has been fined $5,000 and placed on probation until Dec. 31, 2009, for violating Section 12-1 (Actions detrimental to stock car racing: Hitting another competitor's car on pit road after the completion of the race) of the 2009 Nationwide Series rule book.
Brad Keselowski won at Memphis and was involved in at least three incidents in the race, the last when he bumped Carl Edwards with a handful of laps remaining.
Keselowski then got the lead when he whipped past the front row of Michael Annett and Tony Raines on a restart with 12 laps to go when Steve Wallace spun after tangling with Matt Kenseth. Keselowski then held off Nationwide points leader Kyle Busch on a green-white-checkered restart to secure the win.
Wallace banged into Kenseth's car after the race and the two had words on pit road. - NASCAR

| NO. 18 TEAM BUSCH, PENALIZED AFTER LOUDON |
|
|

Â
Being too short has its downside in NASCAR, just ask Kyle Busch and the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing team after Loudon.
Busch's No. 18 M&Ms Camry was found to be too low following the Sylvania 300 Sunday, and as a result Crew chief Steve Addington has been fined $25,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.
Busch and car owner Joe Gibbs have been penalized 25 championship driver and 25 championship owner points, respectively..
The height difference likely occurred because of a failed shock, according to a team source.
Busch had an up-and-down day but finished with a strong fifth-place finish.
Even with the penalty, he holds the 13th spot in the Sprint Cup Series standings.-(AP)- foxsports.com

A statement from Joe Gibbs Racing:
"The situation was caused when the left front spring became dislodged. This resulted in the left front corner of the car to be lower and resulted in a change to the car's handling which had to be compensated for during the race. Consequently, the car measured low during post-race inspection. We accept NASCAR's ruling on the issue today." -jgr pr

Captain Thunder has also appeared on "Press Pass", "Driver's Seat", and "Manifold Destiny with Mojo Nixon" on Sirius NASCAR channel 128.
In addition to interviewing legends like Winston Cup Champion Bill Elliott, Captain Thunder has interviewed current NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt JR., Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards, Ryan Newman, Martin Truex JR., Kurt Busch, Robby Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, David Stremme, Regan Smith, Sam Hornish JR., Aric Almirola, and many others across all three NASCAR touring series.
Captain Thunder's articles have been published in numerous publications across America including ESPN.com, CNNSI.com, FOXsports.com, CBSportsline.com, YahooSports.com, Jayski.com, SpeedwayMedia.com, Inside The Pitbox.com and Insider Racing News.com.
Throughout the SPRINT Cup Season, Captain Thunder travels around the country to cover the sport with an in depth perspective his fans have come to know and love. He can always be found at his motor coach, in the infield or in a nearby campground, giving away free race gear to lucky fans and talking racing.
Captain Thunder's racing roots go back to the 1970's and 1980's. His father, John Sr., was a drag racer and gear head who always kept his son working in the garage on cars and motorcycles.
Captain Thunder began his racing career at the age of twelve when his father forged his birth certificate so he could race motocross in the 125cc class at legendary 'Raceway Park' in Englishtown, NJ. Back then, the age class was fourteen and up, which meant Thunder was often racing against men more than twice his age. He continued to race at tracks across the country for another nine years before retiring from racing to focus on school and a 'real job'.
In 2004, Captain Thunder moved to the Daytona Beach area to be closer to NASCAR headquarters and the famed Daytona International Speedway. Moving to 'Thunder Ranch' put the radio star only 30 minutes from the historic Speedway.
'Thunder Ranch' is a secluded piece of property hosting a go-kart track, a four-wheeler and motocross track, a radio studio, pool and spa, and a separate guest house for friends and family.
Raised around racecars and motorcycles from an early age, Captain Thunder has been a speed junky his entire life. His daily drive is a 420HP Lexus ISF that goes through tires faster than a Top Fuel Funny car!
In 2005, Thunder built a custom designed 'Eddie Van Halen' Harley Davidson Road King Classic in homage to his favorite rock band, Van Halen. Thunder also has a 120 MPH alcohol-burning go-kart, a Kawasaki KX250 motocross bike, a couple of four-wheeler's, and a pair of two-stroke go-karts. You can check out the photo section of the website for a look at some of his toys.
Thunder has been happily married for ten-years, and is the proud father of a nine-year old girl Samantha and a six-year old boy Ty. Following in dad and grandpa's racing footsteps, Ty is racing quarter midgets in the JR Honda division in both USAC and QMA. in the #3 Captain Thunder Racing.com car. In his first season, Ty won two poles, three features, and four heat races. Check out Ty's website www.TyNevinsRacing.com
Captain Thunder hosts the weekly NASCAR radio show, "TWISTED METAL" with Captain Thunder. The show airs every Wednesday night at 8:00 PM and is the only UNCENSORED NASCAR show in the country. You can listen live by clicking the link on the Captain Thunder Racing.com homepage, or you can listen to replays in the Radio Replays section of the website. "TWISTED METAL" is NOT for those under the age of 18.
In 2008, Captain Thunder launched his second website, www.RaceMySpace.com, 'A Social Networking Site For Race Fans'. On 'Race My Space.com', fans can build their own 'MySpace' type web page and show off the colors and graphics of their favorite driver. They can talk smack on the message boards, post their own pictures & videos from the races, buy & sell race tickets in the classified section, and maybe find true love by meeting another NASCAR fan!
Many have asked...so here is the answer. Captain Thunder received his nickname from legendary broadcaster Scott Ferrall. Ferrall began referring to him as Captain Thunder nearly ten years ago when he would do live NASCAR reports for Ferrall's sports shows from the infields of race tracks. When someone as legendary as Scott Ferrall gives you a nickname, it tends to stick!
