Fox's sauciest on-air subject Sunday came when its lead announcers ripped one of NASCAR's biggest names. After Dale Earnhardt Jr. bumped Brian Vickers, which prompted a nine-car pileup, Fox's Larry McReynolds said it was "totally uncalled for" and Darrell Waltrip chimed in:
"I don't care who you are, that's totally wrong!" Or, at least wrong for a while. After Earnhardt was interviewed on-air and said the contact was accidental, Waltrip decided to "give Junior the benefit of the doubt" because "he doesn't drive dirty."
McReynolds rationalized that Earnhardt was frustrated by having earlier been penalized for stopping in the pits a few inches over his parking line -- although we've all been there, done that, and didn't use it as an excuse to nudge the next guy who cut you off in traffic. -- USA Today
