Carl Edwards beat British teenager Jaime Alguersuari and seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher before losing to Scotland’s David Coulthard in the semifinals of the 2008 Race of Champions on Sunday at Wembley Stadium in London. Coulthard, who just retired from Formula One racing after a 15-year career, lost to four-time World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb of France in the finals.

Edwards was one of two drivers from the United States who participated in the event, which consists of 16 drivers competing on a temporary road course set up inside the stadium. The format is similar to a drag race on a road course – the track is split into two courses, and the drivers start in separate lanes next to each other. Each driver navigates his course, and they finish side by side (separated by a barrier) as they come across the finish line. Edwards beat Alguersuari, the youngest British Formula 3 champion ever, while competing in a KTM X-Bow and the quarterfinal against the legendary Schumacher while driving a Fiat Abarth 500. He lost in the semifinal in the KTM.
The other U.S. driver, drift racer/rally driver Tanner Foust, lost in the quarterfinals. - scenedaily.com
